Artist Statement
I use color and light as tools to create abstractions of ordinary objects. The resulting images evoke an appreciation of elemental beauty and joy. I also use these images to explore the personal emotional value we attach to colors and light that surround us on a daily basis.
As a self-taught photographer, my artistic life history has been a series of departures and returns. I began experimenting with black and white photography and photograms in my early teens. Some of the same chromatic themes in my photograms are evident in my current work. In college, I returned to art by pursuing oil painting and later photographic collage. After taking a hiatus to be part of the dot.com boom and subsequent bust, I returned to photography. This time I have shifted my entire production to utilize digital technologies in my photoshoots, editing, and print production. Digital photography provides me with an opportunity to rapidly experiment with the endless variations of color and light present in the world.
I currently live in Portland, Oregon devoting part of my life to being a technology addict and policy analyst. Prior to this, I lived in Washington D.C. for over a decade with even earlier stops in Santa Fe, San Antonio, and Wichita, Kansas.
